MISSION STATEMENT
Nashua Fire and Rescue's mission is to save lives, mitigate the incident, protect property and protect the environment. This department will strive to provide the very best professional services to our citizens in the city of Nashua, in the Nashua Rural Fire Protection District, our neighboring communities and visitors through our area of responsibility. We will treat all people with courtesy and respect. We will accomplish our mission with continuous training of our firefighters in safely mitigating all natural disasters and man-made hazards, providing safety education and fire prevention to the public.
SAVE LIVES AND PROTECT, BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL
ABOUT
Nashua Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1907 to provide organized fire protection to the people of Nashua. In 1965 a Rural Board of Trustees was established to provide an organized fire protection district for people living in rural areas. Nashua Fire and Rescue provides emergency response service to 103 square miles in Chickasaw, Floyd, Bremer and Butler counties including the City of Nashua. We have mutual aid agreements with 17 neighboring community fire departments.
ACTIVE FIREFIGHTERS
There are currently 28 active firefighters. We meet once per month on the 2nd Monday of the month to conduct Nashua Volunteer Firefighters Association business and to train on the knowledge, skills and abilities that are necessary to provide safe mitigation of natural and man-made incidents that the department may respond to. Occasionally the department will have extra in house training and firefighters are encouraged to attend outside training. All firefighters with NF&R are required to be trained to the Firefighter 1 level and attend HAZ-MAT training with Waterloo Fire, NF&R's HAZ-MAT response team.
ANNUAL FUNDRAISERS
The department has two annual fund raisers. The Fireman's Ball held the first Friday after Easter and a 4 person best shot golf tournament held the first Saturday in August. Both events are held at the Nashua Town and Country Club. The department is also working to establish an annual open house during Fire Prevention Week in October that will compliment the department's fire prevention visit with Pre-K through 3rd grade children during that same week in October. On October 9, 2016, we held our first FPW Open House to show our appreciation for the support we receive.
